CARE FOR CREATION
December 3, 2023
This Advent, commit to simplicity.

In a season that can mistakenly be focused on gifts and consumption, explore ways to live simply as we hopefully prepare to commemorate the coming of Jesus and the restoration of the earth.
The Ignatian Solidarity Network offers an online Advent resource whose goal is to help us prepare to celebrate Christ’s coming into the world by living a more simple and intentional life.  The program offers daily inspiration as well as challenges to create habits that combine spirituality with action for healing the earth and society.
At the beginning of Advent, we are each called to set an overall intention for the season to focus on simplicity in a particular area of our lives.  Reminder emails present daily challenges along with inspirational readings and prayers.
Sign up for the challenge and receive reminder emails for daily inspiration by going to:  https://ignatiansolidarity.net/advent-simplicity-challenge/ -- OR – search: Ignatian Solidarity Advent Simplicity Challenge
Then, take some time to think about how you’d like to focus your Advent practice of simplicity, and set your intentions for the coming months by going to:  https://ignatiansolidarity.net/advent-simplicity-challenge/set-your-advent-simplicity-challenge-intention/ -- OR – search:  Ignatian Solidarity Advent Simplicity Intention
Some ideas to consider include:
  • This Advent, to live a more simple and intentional life, I pledge to connect with friends and family using the time I would have used to shop for gifts.
  • This Advent, to live a more simple and intentional life, I pledge to source as much food as possible from local sources.
  • This Advent, to live a more simple and intentional life, I pledge to limit my use of technology unless it is to connect with loved ones.
If we remember Pope Francis’ words reminding us that everything is connected, we are encouraged to look at our habits of daily living with a new perspective….” how does doing this, shopping here, traveling there, eating that, impact the world and people of our earth?”
Let’s celebrate this season of hope by keeping it simple.
