Pre-Confirmation Catechesis To be eligible for enrollment in the Confirmation Preparation Program, a student should:
  • Regularly attend Grade 7 and Grade 8 religious education in Saint Luke School, the Parish School of Religion, or private Catholic school.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic Catholic beliefs.
  • Have the desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Be a member of St. Luke Parish. Enrolled in and attend Faith Formation as a member of the current candidate class for Confirmation. Please notify the Faith Formation Office if you just moved into the parish, etc.

Confirmation Preparation Program Students will be expected to:

  • Participate faithfully in religion class, in Saint Luke School or Parish School of Religion. A pattern of unexcused absences from religious education classes, more than two per semester, can postpone reception of the Sacrament. An excused absence is defined as one being reported to the religious education office due to illness or family emergency.
  • Complete 20 hours of service to the community.
  • Select a patron saint whose name you will take at Confirmation. Research this saint.
  • Complete one written report on the life of the saint. Reflect on the similar characteristics the saint and the parishioner share. Reflect on how there are saints in our midst right here at Saint Luke.
  • Give prayerful consideration to the selection of a Confirmation sponsor. The sponsor must be a Confirmed, practicing Catholic over the age of 16. Parents may not be sponsors for their own children. Sponsors need to request a sponsor certificate of participation from their home parish. (Not required if the sponsor is registered in Saint Luke Parish.)
  • Write a letter to the pastor requesting the Sacrament.
  • Attend a candidate interview (during retreat).
  • Participate in a retreat for candidates prior to Confirmation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic Catholic beliefs.
  • Complete and turn in all the activities in the Confirmation folder when due.
  • Attend the Confirmation rehearsal with sponsor . A parent may stand in for the sponsor if the sponsor cannot be at the rehearsal. Each candidate must be accompanied by an adult.
