Saint Luke Church Strategic Plan 2016-2020
St. Luke Church is one of 69 parishes in the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia. The parish serves registered parishioners (over 1500 families) in the McLean area of Fairfax County and all who are called to join us as a place of prayer and worship, education, outreach and fellowship. St. Luke offers four weekend masses, two daily masses, an elementary school, a parish school of religion and numerous opportunities to participate in spiritually enhancing ministries and outreach programs. St. Luke also has a well-established and popular music program and concert series.
In the fall of 2013, St. Luke conducted a Parish Survey, attempting to hear the voices of all members of the parish, as Father Dave and the Parish Council considered a parish revitalization project, culminating in an action plan covering numerous upgrades and improvements. Now, a strategic plan, covering the next four years, is being put forward. The strategic plan will serve as guidance to achieve our vision for the parish.
The 850 responses of the survey combined with the guidance of Father Dave and the input of the Parish Council and parish staff, resulted in an initial action plan with eight areas of focus. Many of the items listed in this plan have already been implemented. Significantly, a new sound system has been installed in the sanctuary, narthex and parish hall. New hymnals with Sunday readings are now being used in church. The acolytes have been moved to a more prominent position near the altar. Additional handicapped parking spaces have been added to the parking lot. And many new adult faith formation offerings have been provided. Despite these changes and many others emanating from the action plan, Father Dave has stressed the importance of having a new strategic plan that focuses the work of the Parish during his remaining four years until retirement. The document would include, refine and add to the existing action plan.
This plan does not attempt to incorporate EVERY aspect of parish life that is important. Rather, it will attempt to identify a few areas that the Parish will focus on for improvement for the next four years.
The strategic plan states a refined mission statement for the parish as well as a vision statement. The mission statement says who we are now and the vision statement says who we would like to become.
