“The sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved his Church, the grace of the sacrament thus perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 16661).

For those inquiring about getting married at Saint Luke …Congratulations on your Engagement!
Registered parishioners who are interested in being married at Saint Luke Church must contact the parish at least 6 months in advance, and must do so before setting a date.

Because Christian marriage is a sacrament, the Catholic Church wants couples to be well-prepared. Saint Luke and the Arlington Diocese offer marriage preparation to help couples develop a better understanding of the sacrament, to evaluate and deepen their readiness to live a married life, and to gain insights into themselves as individuals and as a couple. The Diocese requires a six-month preparation period before the wedding.

The first step in the process is to complete a marriage preparation request form. Our pastor will assign one of the parish priests to contact you regarding marrying in the Church.

The priest will go over with the couple the required documents to be married in the Church, the type of ceremony, Pre-Cana Conference or Retreat, the FOCCUS Inventory and outline a timeline for your marriage preparation. A date for the wedding can usually be set after the initial appointment.

Please visit the links provided at the bottom of this page for resources/information on these topics, to understand the norms of marriage preparation for the Diocese of Arlington and to download a copy of the Saint Luke Wedding Planner.
